International Foreign Language Society induction ceremony
The Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania Iota Theta Chapter welcomed nine new students as members in Phi Sigma Iota, the International Foreign Language Society on Friday, April 26. The ceremony was conducted by BU faculty members Jesus Salas-Elorza, Amarilis Hidalgo de Jesus, and Patricia Dorame-Holoviak, faculty advisor. During the 2018-19 academic year, Iota Theta Chapter also held its Senior Presentation Series which included the following presenters: Jade A. Hensinger (Spanish in Medical Care), Michael Quaranto (Norilsk and Barrow, similar conditions, dissimilar supply chains), and Nicholas McGuire (Comparing the Governments of Spain and Argentina). Students Attend NASW Annual Advocacy Day
On March 25, 2019, 16 social work students attended the annual NASW Advocacy Day. This annual event is attended by all the social work schools in PA. The advocacy project for 2019 was to advocate for HB 390 which focuses on the importance of certification for school social workers. The Cedar Crest social work majors attended with social work students attending NCC and with the MSW students from Marywood.

Kutztown University Inducts 26 into 2019 Class of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society
Kutztown University inducted 26 students into the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society on Tuesday, Feb. 26. Phi Kappa Phi is the nation's oldest, largest and most selective collegiate honor society that inducts persons from every academic discipline. Established in 1897, distinguished junior and senior level students join a century-old community of scholars and professionals that includes individuals who have distinguished themselves in positions of leadership and whose careers have been characterized by achievement.

Bloomsburg University Forensics Team places fifth at Pennsylvania Forensic Association (PFA) Championship
The Bloomsburg University Forensic (Speech and Debate team) won the fifth place Team Sweepstakes trophy at the 2019 Pennsylvania Forensic Association (PFA) Championship Tournament held at Lafayette College on Feb. 16-17, 2019. Bloomsburg competed against Wilkes University, Lafayette College, St. Joseph's University, Penn State University, West Chester University, and Grove City College. Six of eleven Bloomsburg University students won speech and debate awards at the state tournament.

Bloomsburg University Forensics Team Third at Recent Competition.
The Bloomsburg University Forensics (Speech and Debate) team won the 3rd Place Team Sweepstakes Award out of 12 schools at the CFA/Harold Cox Speech and Debate Tournament held at Wilkes University on Feb. 1-2, 2019. Six out of eight BU students participating in the tournament won speech and debate awards. Bloomsburg competed against St. Joseph's University, George Mason University, Rollins College, Lynchburg University, Shepherd University, Bryn Mawr College, Liberty University, Wilkes University, Misericordia University, Trinity College, and Luzerne County Community College.

The Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania forensics team won the second place team sweepstakes award at the Collegiate Forensic Association's Annual Winter Tournament held at the College of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina in January.

Kutztown University Announces Fall 2018 Degree Recipients
Kutztown University has conferred degrees for more than 450 students for the Fall 2018 semester. Kutztown University announces degree conferment twice a year, once in the winter and once in the summer. Commencement exercises are held in May and December; however, students finish the requirements for graduation throughout the entire year. The following students have been awarded degrees following the fall 2018 semester. The cumulative grade point average necessary for honors distinction is: with honor (cum laude) 3.40; with high honor (magna cum laude) 3.60 and with highest honor (summa cum laude) 3.80. Students listed multiple times have been awarded more than one degree. Students who have requested privacy (FERPA) are not listed publicly.

Kutztown University has issued Career Exploration Certificates to 41 students for the 2018 fall semester. The Career Exploration Certificate is open to all freshmen and sophomore students. A total of 1,513 students have been named to the Dean's List at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania (ESU) for the Fall 2018 semester of the 2018-2019 academic year, according to Joanne Bruno, J.D., provost and vice president for academic affairs.
